In a few hours, the curtain will come down on the 13th African Games. Since 8 March, Accra, the Ghanaian capital, has been hosting African athletes across all disciplines. Alongside the challenge of staging the event, Ghana is also succeeding in the challenge of turnout.
The Ghanaians, who won only 2 gold medals, 2 silver and 13 bronze in Morocco five years ago, are doing far better in front of their home crowd. So far they have gathered 67 medals: 19 gold, 29 silver and 19 bronze.
Currently sitting 6th, Ghana are still a long way behind Egypt in the medal table at these African Games. The Egyptian delegation is unbeatable. It has racked up 187 medals: 99 gold, 46 silver and 42 bronze. As at the previous edition, Nigeria are in second place. The Nigerians have 121 medals (47 gold, 33 silver, 41 bronze). South Africa complete the podium with 106 medals (32 gold, 32 silver, 42 bronze).
