2026 Women's AFCON: Malawi - Cameroon for an unprecedented final

Thabita Chawinga eliminates Algeria

Historic Malawi! For their first participation in the Women's AFCON, the team achieved an exceptional feat. They qualified for the final after their 3-1 victory over Algeria at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat. A success and qualification made possible thanks to the Chawinga sisters. Star Thabita Chawinga scored a brace in the 33rd and 76th minutes. Temba Chawinga found the net in added time at the end of the first half.

Malawi - Algeria, this match was spectacular in every way. Beyond the 4 goals scored, both teams finished the match with reduced numbers. The Algerian Belkhiter was the first to be sent off. In the final seconds of the first half, the Malawian Kadzere also received a red card.

At the end of suspense, Cameroon eliminates Morocco

Ten years later, Cameroon returns to the Women's AFCON final. The Indomitable Lionesses pulled off a massive feat by knocking out the Lionesses of the Atlas, the big favorites of the competition, at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat. Defensively solid, the Cameroonian team took Morocco all the way to penalties. Thanks to three saves from their goalkeeper Michaely, Cameroon brought down the Moroccan team (3-1, 0-0 after extra time).

Morocco had the opportunity to put the match to bed in the final minutes of extra time. The team had a chance to score after a Cameroonian foul in the penalty area. But Fatima Tagnaout missed her penalty against an impeccable Michaely. Yet another disappointment for the Lionesses of the Atlas.
