Three months out from the world athletics championships in Budapest, Ferdinand Omanyala is showing every time he races that he is in superb form. The Kenyan is aiming to win a world medal in the 100m, which would be a first in his country's history, a nation better known for its many titles in distance running. In front of his home crowd, and as he did last season, he won in commanding fashion at the Absa Kip Keino Classic,

At this World Continental Tour meeting, Ferdinand Omanyala made a statement. He blew the field away down the straight, crossing the line in a superb time of 9s84. That is the 2nd best mark in history for an African, level with South Africa's Akani Simbine. It is also the best performance in the world this year over 100m, displacing the 9s91 of Terrence Jones (Bahamas). On home soil, then, Ferdinand Omanyala finished ahead of Americans Kenneth Bednarek (9s98) and Bracy-Williams Marvin, who completed the podium in the 100m at the Absa Kip Keino meeting.
