For several weeks, Morocco has been meticulously preparing this opener. Walid Regragui and his staff worked on all levels, tactical as well as physical, with particular attention paid to managing absences and major players' problems. The situations of Achraf Hakimi, Hamza Igamane or Sofyan Amrabat punctuated the final adjustments. The objective, however, does not vary. At home, Morocco is aiming for the title and wants to make this edition a highlight of its recent history. The issue goes beyond the simple sports framework, in a context where the kingdom also wants to succeed in an exemplary organization before the 2030 World Cup that it will co-organize.
“We have been working for two years. It will be a great day, at our place. Our goal has always been to win the AFCON and give the maximum. Our supporters are with us," said Regragui, cautious however on the management of individualities. «Hakimi can start as he may not start. Each match is important. The Comoros, audacity without complex
On the other side, the Comoros are advancing without excessive pressure, but with an assumed ambition. Under the leadership of Stefano Cusin, the Cœlacanthes exploited each session to strengthen the cohesion of a group with limited preparation time. Outsiders on paper, the Comorians intend to defend their chances seriously and demonstrate that they have their place on the continental scene. The opening match, against the host country, is a rare showcase.

A first turning point for Pool A
The kick-off is scheduled at 19h GMT. This inaugural clash officially launches the 35th African Cup of Nations and sets the tone for Pool A, where Morocco will then face Mali and Zambia. Given the nomenclature and context of the group, a messy start might not be welcomed for the host.
For the Atlas Lions, it is about imposing their status from the outset and meeting a double obligation. Win a title that has been eluding them for fifty years and offer a strong image, equal to the event. For the Comoros, the objective is clear. Resist, exist and, if possible, surprise.
