The context in Nice is certainly not ideal, with the Gym stuck in a season that is off to a very bad start: the club sits in last place in Ligue 1, and on top of that has to deal with the long-term absences of Moïse Bombito and Antoine Mendy, which has weakened its defense. Alidu Seidu was therefore recruited to fill some gaps, and quickly.
But his versatility meets the need. The 26-year-old footballer is able to play on the right side of defense as well as in the center. In a depleted squad, this flexibility is valuable, and his Ligue 1 experience lets him integrate without needing any adaptation period. For a team searching for stability, this is a significant asset.
The challenge: saving a struggling Gym
Joining Nice under these circumstances means accepting a high-pressure challenge. The club is fighting to avoid relegation rather than for European spots. Alidu Seidu isn't arriving to settle in quietly: he is expected to deliver immediately, and will need to make the back line more solid. Nevertheless, this situation also has an advantage. A player looking to regain his form couldn't wish for a better opportunity to prove himself than being needed by a team like this one.
The revival of a player coming back into the fold
Because Alidu Seidu has a lot to prove. He made his mark with Clermont, where he established himself as one of the noteworthy right backs in Ligue 1, but his trajectory stalled at Rennes. In the heart of the summer, he was sent to the “loft,” that group of players excluded from the sporting project. He had been waiting ever since for an exit route to open up.
That door opened at Nice. The Ghanaian still has a contract with Rennes until 2029, which gives this loan another dimension. The player does not have to convince Nice to buy him, as there is no option, but he must be convincing enough to secure a future for himself, at Rennes or elsewhere.
The ideal scenario is simple. Seidu regains playing time, rhythm and confidence, and helps Nice climb out of the relegation zone. If successful, he would get his career back on track. After months of waiting and being sidelined, this season can give him back his status. Now it’s up to him to play.
