Amine Harit's recent journey is a true renaissance. Dropped by Roberto De Zerbi, Harit had left Marseille in the summer of 2025 for Istanbul Başakşehir, on loan with an option to buy. In Turkey, he rediscovered a rhythm he had been missing: over 1,200 minutes played across all competitions, one goal and four assists in the league at the time of the March assessment. He summed it up himself at a press conference: "I rediscovered the pleasure of playing every weekend".
The context also works in his favour. With no new signings this summer, OM have a thin squad, and Bruno Genesio, now in the dugout, needs available and creative players. Harit, for his part, knows the club well. He arrived in 2021, and has 107 appearances to his name, with 10 goals and 20 assists in an Olympien shirt. That is respectable, but far from what his talent had led people to hope for.
For this is indeed the Harit paradox: a technique and vision of the game that thrilled the Vélodrome, but a spell marked by inconsistency. His 2022-2023 season, a promising one, was cut short by a serious knee injury before the World Cup. Since then, continuity has always eluded him.
One issue remains unresolved: his contract expires in a year, and he refused to go into detail about his salary negotiations, simply saying he was "very happy to be here". Sportingly, the message is clear: he wants to focus on the pitch.
At 29, Harit may be experiencing his last real chance to leave his mark at Marseille. It is up to him to transform his status as a stopgap into that of a technical leader. The Vélodrome, for its part, has never stopped loving him.
More impact needed
However, one problem will need to be addressed for Amine Harit to durably break into the circle of key players: being more decisive. His manager Bruno Genesio touched on this on September 20th following the 1-2 defeat against PSG. "Amine has had a good start to the season, he is important for the team's balance and his tactical awareness. I don't like to talk about players individually too much, but perhaps he needs to be more decisive."
Since the start of the 2026-2027 season, Amine Harit has played 5 Ligue 1 matches, all as a starter, contributing just 1 assist. Furthermore, his best tally with OM stands at 2 goals and 8 assists during the 2023-2024 season, while his best career performance was 7 goals and 5 assists in 2019-2020 with Schalke 04.
This is therefore an area for improvement for the Moroccan who, at 29, has the opportunity to carry a Marseille side in serious difficulty on his shoulders.
