The Ivorian Basketball Federation presented its 2022 review and its outlook for 2023, with the World Cup on the horizon, to the press on Friday 23 December 2022. The event took place at the FIBA Africa headquarters in the Treichville district of Abidjan.
Joined by national team coach Dejan Prokic, president Mahama Coulibaly described the federation's activities as satisfactory, including the revival of the leagues (N1, N2, N3 and youth), the promotion of women's basketball (including the Gender project at Lycée Sainte Marie de Cocody), the strengthening of local coaches' skills, the encouragement and identification of talent, and the development of basketball leagues.
He then set out the five (5) strategic priorities for making a success of the upcoming World Cup campaign. They are: closer communication with the institutions of the republic (National Assembly, Senate, Economic and Social Council...); lobbying and other advocacy around the Elephants basketball team; promotion of Côte d'Ivoire as a destination; national and international pride; the search for private backers; and qualification for the Olympic Games (JO 2024). The president of the Ivorian Basketball Federation also used the occasion to discuss major projects: the construction of the Abidjan Arena, the staging of the Abidjan international tournament, the arrival of NBA player Mohamed Bamba in the national team, Côte d'Ivoire's participation in the Afrochan 2023, and the creation of the "Basketball City" incorporating a boarding facility, a hotel complex, an administrative building and 2 basketball courts.
