Organized by the Fédération burkinabè de boxe, this title bout carried special significance. The evening, sponsored by the Minister of Security, Mahamoudou Sana, was awaited as the signal of a rebirth. The Fédération burkinabè was banking on a resounding outcome for its undefeated champion. But the Beninese challenger, Dossou Faustin Houenou, quickly reminded everyone that he belonged to the ranks of tough customers.
From the very first round, Nikiéma set the pace with powerful straight punches and precise uppercuts. The Burkinabè, more technical and agile, launched repeated attacks in hopes of forcing a stoppage before the distance. With his back against the wall, trapped on the ropes multiple times, Houenou displayed exceptional resilience. Nicknamed "the absorber", the Beninese fighter took every blow without ever giving in, forcing the match to go the full distance.

The judges issued a unanimous verdict: 120-108, 119-109, and 120-108 in favor of Abel Hamed Nikiéma. The technical dominance of the Burkinabè champion made the difference, but Houenou's mental and physical toughness prevented any early conclusion. This bout showcased two complementary styles: constant pressure and precision on one side, grit and the ability to take hits on the other.
At ringside, Abel Hamed Nikiéma offered a clear assessment of his opponent: "My opponent was a true absorber. I tried everything to stop him, but he proved himself a great fighter. You don’t step into the ring just to look for a KO. You keep working until the end. If the KO comes, so much the better." The Burkinabè boxer then dedicated his belt "to the Burkinabè people and especially to my brothers in arms who have stayed at the front". This patriotic message anchors his victory in the current national context and goes beyond the simple sporting sphere.

The Minister of Sports, Annick Pikbougoum, praised the performances of both men: "A very beautiful bout between two great champions. Many were hoping for a KO, but we must acknowledge that the Beninese challenger showed tremendous courage. Our champion, however, demonstrated all the qualities expected of a great boxer."
A title to defend within six months
In accordance with professional boxing regulations, Abel Hamed Nikiéma will have to put his WBA Africa belt on the line again within a maximum of six months. The new champion has already added this to his roadmap: "The objective now is to defend this belt and, step by step, go after a world title. We want to revive Burkinabè boxing." This ambition is realistic.
Abel Hamed Nikiéma has both a track record and experience that place him among the best middleweights on the continent. Winning this continental title is the highest achievement in African boxing that the Fédération burkinabè needed to rekindle the flame.

Aside from the main event, the evening also featured several Burkinabè victories in amateur and novice professional bouts, confirming the rise of a strong new generation. Burkina Faso, which had not claimed a continental title in nearly ten years, thus regains visibility and credibility on the African scene.
