Burkina Faso: Moukaïla Rawendé and Lamoussa Zoungrana winners of the RTB Grand Prix

In the men’s category, on a 5,100 km closed circuit to be covered 25 times for a total of 127.5 km, it was Moukaïla Rawendé from AS Bessel who raised his arms as winner. Third in the first edition in 2025, the Burkinabe ridder this time dominated the race at the end of a long breakaway. He crossed the line in 3h 12min 51s, at an impressive average speed of 39,668 km/h.

Hectic race among men
The race was lively from the first laps. The Malian riders opened hostilities by taking the first intermediate sprint, forcing the Burkinabe to react. A breakaway of five men was then drawn at the initiative of Soulama Bamassi from MAKAFA Vélo Club, with two representatives from AJCK, two from AS Bessel and one rider from Banfora. They quickly created a gap of more than one minute.

The peloton, led notably by the Malians, attempted a revolt, maintaining a high pace around 40 km/h. Result, 41 retirements were recorded after 15 laps. With five laps to go, the gap fell to just over a minute, but the leading men held on. In the final stretch, Moukaïla Rawendé launched a lightning-fast sprint to win against Soumaïla Ilboudo, winner 2025 (2nd) and Soulama Bamassi (3rd).

"This victory is not mine, it’s for teamwork," said champion Moukaïla Rawende at the finish. We had a very high-level race with the presence of Mali. We needed a suitable strategy, and we succeeded thanks to our teammates.”

In the women’s category, over 6 laps (30.6 km), Lamoussa Zoungrana of AS Bessel dominated to win the title. She receives a check for 500,000 CFA francs and the trophy. Awa Bamogo from USFA USFA and Adèle Guissou from AS Bessel complete the podium in 2nd and 3rd places.

This second edition, marked by a high level and a beautiful atmosphere on the boulevard Thomas Sankara, officially launches the 2026 season of the Burkina Faso Cycling Federation.
