Rigobert Song is under pressure. The Cameroon national team coach may be in his final hours in the job. According to reports, the 46-year-old tactician has been summoned to a crisis meeting due to be chaired this Thursday by Samuel Eto’o.

The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot) is unhappy with the Indomitable Lions' latest results. Held to a draw (1-1) in Yaoundé, then beaten (2-1) in Soweto by Namibia on 24 and 28 March, the performances and the image projected by Choupo-Moting and his team-mates provoked Samuel Eto’o's anger, while the public are calling for Rigobert Song's head.

Today's meeting could lead to a string of sackings, especially as the coaches of all the national teams, across every category, have been summoned to it.

A string of poor results

Indeed, the overall results of Cameroon's football teams make for poor reading. Take the following examples. On the women's side, the national team were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations. The Lionesses also failed to qualify for the next World Cup.

The home-based Lions went out in the first round of the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The senior side exited in the first round of the 2022 World Cup. The U23 and U20 Lions, meanwhile, will not take part in the Africa Cup of Nations at their respective age levels.
