Namibia produced an impressive performance against Tunisia. The Brave Warriors beat Tunisia on Tuesday 16 January in Group D. It was a landmark win for the Namibians, their first at an Africa Cup of Nations finals. They also outplayed Tunisia. The Eagles of Carthage were under pressure in the first half, with Namibia creating the better chances. Shalulile narrowly failed to connect with a fine Daniel Hotto cross inside the six-yard box (22nd minute). Lacking aggression, Youseff Msakni and his team-mates came under repeated Namibian attacks, although the Namibians struggled with their finishing. The teams went into the break goalless.

Hotto delivers the decisive blow

Tunisia posed more of a threat in the second half. Talbi met a Maaloul corner close to the source-printed distance of “5, 5” metres. His header was heading for goal, but Kazapua turned it away on the line. Namibia resisted Tunisia’s attacks and created chances of their own. The southern African side eventually broke through in the closing minutes thanks to Daniel Hotto. Muzeu delivered an inswinging right-footed cross to Hotto, unmarked at the far post, and his powerful header flew in beneath the bar. The crucial goal gave Namibia a famous win in Group D at AFCON 2023.
