Morocco labour, but the job is done
On home soil, the Atlas Lionesses booked their place in the Women's AFCON quarter-finals by beating Senegal (1-0). In a hard-fought match, Yasmin Mrabet made the difference from the penalty spot. The win lets Morocco finish top of the group with 7 points, ahead of Zambia, who also have 7 points but an inferior goal difference. For the Senegal Lionesses, a second defeat leaves them waiting on other results. With 3 points, they will have to hope to be among the two best third-placed teams to extend their tournament.
Zambia live up to their billing, DR Congo go out
In the group's other match, Zambia did what was needed, beating the Democratic Republic of Congo (1-0). Racheal Kundananji delivered again, scoring the winning goal. DR Congo, already struggling, not only left the competition with zero points but also finished with ten players after the sending-off of Falonne Pambani. It was an inglorious Women's AFCON exit for the Congolese, who have plenty to rebuild.
