In 2021, Cameroon let a golden opportunity slip to lift their first continental title. As hosts of the Women's African Handball Championship and backed by their home crowd, the Indomitable Lionesses contested the final against Angola, the powerhouse of the sport in Africa. Despite the support of their fans, they were swept aside by the Palancras Negras (25-15). It was the second final Cameroon had lost to Angola.
This Saturday 19 November, the two teams meet in their second successive final, and Cameroon will look to take their revenge. Unbeaten since the start of the competition, the reigning African runners-up have been more than convincing. They beat Senegal, hosts of the Women's African Handball Championship, in a group game to top Group C. They did, however, see off Congo in the semi-final the hard way (27-25).
The same goes for Angola, who needed two periods of extra time to get past Senegal (24-21). The Senegal Lionesses could even have wrapped up the game, but they missed three chances to snatch the win. The Angolans rediscovered their shooting touch in the last five minutes and booked a place in their 15th final. This Saturday 19 November, Angola are going for a 15th title, their fourth in a row. Cameroon and Angola face off at 19:00 GMT at the Dakar Arena. Before that, Senegal and Congo will play for a place on the 3rd step of the podium.
