Madagascar's Barea are a joy to watch. Playing at the CHAN for the first time, the Malagasy side keep producing fine performances. On Saturday 28 January, they booked their place in the semi-finals of the 7th edition with a 3-1 win over Mozambique, a game they largely controlled. Quick, sharp and clinical in front of goal, Madagascar's players stung the Mambas just after the first quarter of an hour.
Solomampionona Razafindranaivo put Madagascar on course for victory in the 18th minute. It was the attacking midfielder's 3rd goal of the tournament, having already found the net in both group games, against Ghana (2-1) and Sudan (3-0). Jean-Yves Razafindrakoto (67th) and Marcio Ravelomanantsoa (87th) scored Madagascar's other two goals. Isac Carvalho saved Mozambique's pride by pulling one back in stoppage time (90th +4).
In the semi-finals, Madagascar, the tournament's top-scoring side with 8 goals in 3 games, will face Senegal, who have conceded just one goal. The other semi-final pits hosts Algeria against Niger. The Mena have just secured their place in the last four by beating Ghana. Imarana Seyni (11th) and Boubacar Haïnikoye (49th) scored the Nigerien goals. Like Algeria, Niger have yet to concede a goal.
