Djibouti: the clubs call for the removal of president Waberi

After weeks of simmering crisis marked by numerous revelations about the suspicious use of financial resources and the resignation of a member of its Executive Committee (Mohamed Elmi Farah), the Djiboutian Football Federation is sinking further into turmoil.

On September 3, a coalition was formed bringing together twenty-seven clubs to request the holding of an Extraordinary General Assembly to submit a motion of no confidence against the Executive Committee. The withdrawal of confidence is justified by multiple reasons:

• Progressive deterioration of the institution's operation

• Lack of transparency in the management of financial resources

• Failure to communicate mandatory audits

• Repeated delays in organizing competitions

• Administrative and sporting decisions made without consulting the clubs concerned

• Inequitable treatment

• Discriminatory practices

The Presidency of the Republic alerted

Duly ratified by the twenty-seven clubs, which automatically triggers the holding of an Extraordinary General Assembly since more than two-thirds of the associate members have requested it (article 30 of the statutes), the document was signed by a bailiff who traveled to the federation's headquarters to uphold the coalition’s rights.

Problem: the secretary general of the FDF refused to acknowledge receipt of the document twice! An attitude that further alienated even more clubs against the federation, which is unwilling to listen, even at the cost of disregarding the laws of the Republic and its own statutes.

Having been alerted, the Presidency of the Republic is closely following this troublesome case, which embarrasses a State that could have done without such “publicity” on the international stage.

As for FIFA, who had already turned a blind eye to the presence of President Souleiman Waberi’s family members on the Electoral Commission (which is strictly forbidden by the FDF statutes), it has also been informed of recent events.
