To comply with the CAF requirement that clubs taking part in the CAF Super League must have a women's team, Asec have set up a women's football section. Former player Adélaïde Koudougnon will be its coach. Previously at the DTN, Koudougnon is one of the pioneers of the women's game. In the 1990s, she was one of the leading figures at Juventus Yopougon, the most successful club in Côte d'Ivoire with around twenty national trophies. She had been a member of the DTN since leaving the Ivorian women's national team in 2012. Marietou Djibo, meanwhile, will simply be the boss of this Asec women's football section.
Les Mimosas spare no effort
To build their women's football squad, Asec Mimosas have decided to shop among their rivals, with tempting offers of bonuses and salaries. Several players are therefore clashing with their clubs in the middle of the season to obtain a release letter, so they can play in the yellow and black colours. "Hello coach, I would like to tell you that I will no longer be able to continue with you, I am leaving the club and I would like to have my release letter as soon as possible and without any fuss please, it's urgent", one player, whose name we are withholding, wrote to her original club and her coach. Juventus FC, Afan Abengourou and Ange FC are the sides hit hardest by the mass departures. The women's D2 football championship will be played with 25 teams. The start date should be announced very shortly by the Ivorian Football Federation.
