The Ivory Coast women's football league is picking up pace, following in the wake of the men's competition. After matchday 5, defending champions Athletico lead with 15 points, ahead of Juventus Yopougon on 13 points. A perfect record that surprises very few people. Behind the two heavyweights, Afan are 3rd with 12 points, the surprise of the early season to be in the top three. The youngest side in the Ivory Coast women's league are clearly the standout attraction in their third consecutive year in the top flight. On the next matchday of the competition, they will be under the spotlight in the showdown with Athletico. Sides such as Africa Sports, 2021 champions, Inter FC and Stella appear to have been left behind. Africa are 6 points off the leaders. Inter, who ran the title race close for a long time in the 2021-2022 season, are 5 points off the leaders, while Stella, a major name in the history of this women-only competition, are 7th, 9 points off the top. And what of the dominant force of the decade? It is clearly a total disappointment, because for now Onze Sœurs, who won the title ten times in the last twelve seasons, are struggling. And nothing suggests the former champions will wake up. The Blue-and-Yellows are 10th, and so bottom of the Ivory Coast women's football league table. They have just three matchdays left to avoid relegation. That would be the worst-case scenario for the club founded by Fodé Sylla.
