The national women's Ligue 2 championship got under way on Saturday 18 March 2023 at the Robert Champroux stadium. Teco FC and Gloria FC kicked off the competition, with Teco FC making an impressive flying start to win 3-1. For the formal opening of the Ligue 2 season, the president of the Women's Football Commission, Mrs Aka Christine, and the Commission's members pulled out all the stops to make the return of the women's Ligue 2 championship a success.
For the opening match, kicked off by Mr Issa Diabaté, the Teco FC–Gloria FC contest was of an acceptable standard. Both sides showed the crowd at the Robert Champroux stadium that they wanted to play. Teco FC dominated the first half and led 2-0, but that did not stop the Gloria FC players from digging deep to worry their opponents in the second half, despite their 1-3 defeat at the final whistle. It was an important first win for TECO FC, who are determined to do everything they can to play in Ligue 1 next season.
A day of sharing
Before the start of the women's Ligue 2 season, a gala match pitted the FIF women against female sports journalists from Côte d’Ivoire, with national team coach Touré Clémentine looking on. Everything was in place for the day to run like clockwork, in an atmosphere of brass bands and performances by artists.
“I am very pleased with the turnout. President Yacine Idriss Diallo had promised that the ball would be rolling everywhere and that all competitions would take place. Three years after the last edition, women's Ligue 2 football is indeed back, with 25 clubs, and the top four will go up to Ligue 1,” said Mr Issa Diabaté, representative of the President of the Amateur League.
