Since his first selection with Cameroon on October 8, 2025 (victory against Mauritius 0-2, editor’s note), Karl Etta Eyong has been going through a difficult period in Levante. The 22-year-old striker, author of a dazzling start to the season that quickly propelled him among the revelations of La Liga, is struggling today to find his way back into the net. A long journey through the desert that worries both his supporters and observers of the Spanish championship.
Soldier out of ammunition
Indeed, the last time Karl Etta Eyoung scored in Spain was on October 26, 2025. That evening, the Indomitable Lion and his teammates were traveling to Mallorca for the 10th day of La Liga. Levante had opened the scoring thanks to the Cameroonian international. But the locals finally snatched the draw (1-1). Since then, the weeks follow each other and little output from the Cameroonian. Eyong played 15 matches in all competitions with his club, without scoring a single goal.
Former undisputed regular member, the striker has started only 3 of the last 6 matches, with entries sometimes limited to a few minutes, like the match against Espanyol on 11 January (1-1), where he played only... 180 seconds.
A promising arrival
Yet, upon his arrival among the Azulgranas at the beginning of September 2025, everything seemed promising for the native of Douala. Transferred from Villarreal after 1 goal and 2 assists in 3 matches, Eyong has 3 goals in 3 matches, including one against Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappé on 23 September (1-4).
With 4 goals and 3 assists in 6 matches, he ranked among the 5 best scorers of La Liga after six games and was even nominated for the Player of the Month Award in September. This performance opened the doors for him to the selection of Cameroon with whom he competed in his first African Cup in December in Morocco. But also aroused the interest of major European clubs.
European clubs attentive, but cautious
In La Liga, FC Barcelona opened the door, seduced by his physical power, mobility and promising profile for an attacking project. In Germany, Eintracht Frankfurt identified Eyong as an ideal replacement in Wahi, anticipating his departure and looking for a striker capable of boosting their front line. Even in Russia, CSKA Moscow had activated its networks to closely observe the Indomitable Lion, convinced that his freshness and potential could complement their squad. Only, the offensive shortage and the reduced playing time of the player cooled the enthusiasm of the scouts.
