Football: Véron Mosengo-Omba to finally leave CAF

Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football  since March 2021, Véron Mosengo-Omba will officially leave office at the meeting of the Executive Committee scheduled for Sunday, March 29, according to information from Sport News Africa.

Affected by the age limit since last October 15, he had however remained in position and continued to make decisions, including the dismissals and promotions of several employees or directors without consulting the Executive Committee beforehand as provided for in the statutes.

His reign was marked by a serious institutional crisis and several internal reports challenging its management and the numerous dysfunctions noted, the latter of which could have serious consequences on the procedure at the CAS.


Samson Adamu or Gelson Fernandes to replace him?
No longer in a nod of sanctity with the Executive Committee, his departure was only a matter of time, especially since he has been trying for some time to secure an exit from CAF via the Congolese football federation by pushing his application for the federation's top job.

To replace him, two names stand out. Samson Adamu, the current director of CAF competitions, who is favored by several members of the Executive Committee and who has held lengthy discussions with the Egyptian and Moroccan federations to resolve disputes (notably related to clubs).

However, there is lobby for Gelson Fernandes. Without having anything in particular against the person, several leaders argue that they do not want to relive an experience similar to that of Véron Mosengo-Omba who was arguably powered by FIFA.
