The Ivorians have made a good start to the 39th African Handball Cup Winners' Cup, currently being played in Egypt. Red Star opened with a walkover win, then beat JSK by 33 to 30 on Wednesday 10 May 2023. In the women's competition, Habitat HBC of Abobo beat Morocco's US Nouasser on the opening matchday by 29-22. The Ivorians then suffered a heavy defeat to Egypt's formidable Al Ahly by 39 to 15. On matchday 3, Red Star faced Zamalek on Thursday 11 May 2023, while Habitat HBC's women had a rest day. The Ivory Coast champions lost by 42 to 22. It is their first defeat in the competition.
