Ibrahima Ba, how this Senegalese defender is winning over Europe

Sought after by Strasbourg before the resounding failure of his transfer, Famalicão's Senegalese defender Ibrahima Ba resumed training as early as Monday. Far from calming things down, this episode instead confirms the growing interest sparked by the 21-year-old player, who remains on the radar of Benfica and several foreign clubs.

Ibrahima Ba, how this Senegalese defender is winning over Europe

Back to square one

Ibrahima Ba took part without any restrictions in the training session held Monday morning at Famalicão's training center, according to the Portuguese press. A return to normalcy that sharply contrasts with the saga of recent days. The defender was actually on his way to Hugo Oliveira's Strasbourg, who was very eager to bring him back after having managed him in Portugal.

The transfer ultimately fell through, as a medical issue was detected during the routine medical examination before signing his 4-year contract. His agent denies this version and insists that his player has no health concerns. Despite this setback, the Ibrahima Ba case is far from over. Several interested parties, including Benfica and other foreign clubs, are keeping an eye on his situation as the end of the summer transfer window approaches.

Who is Ibrahima Ba?

The question remains as to why this Senegalese defender is generating such excitement. To better understand his profile, Sport News Africa interviewed Alexandre Carvalho, a recruiter specialized in Portuguese football. His assessment is unequivocal regarding the player's athletic qualities. "Ibrahima Ba is a young defender who is very good in duels, very impactful. He is fast with good speed. He's interesting in the way he handles depth," he describes. On the technical side, he is not lacking either. "With the ball, I wouldn't say he's an expert in building from the back, but he has a rather good long pass, especially with his long game. Above all, he stands out thanks to his athletic qualities," adds the recruiter.

A highly sought-after profile in the market

This combination of speed, physical impact, and youth explains the fierce competition between Strasbourg and Benfica to secure his services. "This is a very sought-after profile on the market. He is young so naturally he attracts clubs. A young defender with this quality generates a lot of interest because the room for growth is huge," analyzes Alexandre Carvalho.

Still room for improvement

Yet the Senegalese defender is not a finished product. Alexandre Carvalho identifies several areas for development for the next steps in his career. "For his development, he's already very strong athletically, so his room for progress should focus on concentration. In Portugal, he was well above his peers athletically, so it was somewhat too easy for him. He will still need to work on his speed, on duels. Refine his reading of the game during anticipation, develop his football IQ," details the recruiter.

The scope for improvement, coupled with his already solid profile, explains why Ibrahima Ba's name will continue to stir up the transfer market in the coming weeks, whether at Famalicão, Benfica, or at another, not yet identified, foreign club.
