Tell us about how you qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics? Didier Kiki: The news came from the federation officials. First I received an email from the committee asking me to complete some formalities, which I did. Then I got confirmation of my qualification. I was really happy because making this summer's Olympic Games was my goal for the season. I thanked my God, since this will be my last appearance at the Games. The Beninese delegation has set up its base in Montfort-le-Gesnois, in France, a partner town that is hosting Benin's ambassadors for their preparation. How did the public presentation day go on 3 July? Didier Kiki: The welcome was warm on the presentation day. We were well received by the mayor and his team, and everything was well organised with the Benin delegation officials. We felt at home, we were given medals by the town, and I met children who were at the ceremony. It was wonderful. How is your training camp in France going? Didier Kiki: Preparation is going to plan. We are already adapting to the climate, and training sessions are going well, as scheduled. The training centre is a good setting, away from the noise. I train with my coach. Alongside that, the delegation officials make sure we are working in good conditions. What are your goals for the 2024 Olympic Games? Didier Kiki: My main goal is to get through the first round and go as far as possible. Beyond that, it is also about posting a good time and beating my personal best. Can Benin finally hope for a first Olympic medal? Didier Kiki: We are here to go after medals because anything is possible. It would be a big step for Benin if we manage to win a medal at the Olympic Games. The delegation will give its all to do the country proud. A message for Beninese nationals in France? Didier Kiki: I ask them to turn out in numbers to back us. For those who will be at the competition venues, we will need their encouragement and support. For those who cannot be there, their prayers will be a help to us.
