Kamory Doumbia, blistering start in Ligue 1

This season, Kamory Doumbia clearly isn’t here to waste time. Scorer of a brace on Saturday during Stade Brestois’s 2-1 win over Le Havre, the Malian attacking midfielder is now the top scorer in Ligue 1 with 4 goals in just 3 matches.

Kamory Doumbia, blistering start in Ligue 1

Kamory Doumbia unstoppable

For his third season in Brittany, Doumbia is off to a flying start. The Malian eagle is soaring at high altitude at the beginning of a campaign that has started very well for him. From the very first matchday, the 23-year-old midfielder made an impression by being doubly decisive with a goal and an assist in the draw (2-2) against Le Mans, newly promoted to Ligue 1.

On the second matchday, Kamory Doumbia continued his streak by finding the net again against Toulouse in another impressive game (2-2). Before taking off to a new level this Saturday against Le Havre with his brace (2-1), which allowed Stade Brestois to secure their first victory of the season and remain unbeaten.

With 4 goals, Kamory Doumbia is currently the top scorer in Ligue 1. This is absolutely remarkable for a midfielder. This budding consistency for Doumbia comes from thorough individual and collective preseason preparation which is paying off. In just 3 matches, he has already almost matched his total from last season (5 goals) in 24 Ligue 1 games.

Olympic form that will benefit Mali

While Brest is already benefiting from this explosive start from their midfielder, it should be especially good news for Mali, two weeks before the start of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers. The Eagles will face Cape Verde (September 25) and Liberia (September 29) in the first two matchdays.

Often decisive with the national team (14 goals in 30 caps), Kamory Doumbia is currently on a 5-match goal drought with Mali and hasn’t scored since October 8, 2025 (a brace against Chad). This excellent form should allow him to regain confidence in his national team jersey.

But before the September international break, Doumbia still has two games to keep his fine run going in Ligue 1. First against a struggling PSG (September 13), then AJ Auxerre (September 20).
