When he arrived in Wolfsburg last summer, Mohammed Amoura joined a rather ambitious team that finished 11th in the Bundesliga last season just 9 points behind Europe. But the 2025/26 season was disappointing for the Wolves, who have had three coaches this season. And yet, Amoura managed to pull herself out of the game.
For his first season with a club that has struggled a lot, Fennec still managed to lose 8 goals and distribute 4 assists in 30 matches of Bundesliga. Mohammed Amoura could even have done better, without his two being sidelined for disciplinary reasons, under two different coaches. First with the temp house Daniel Bauer at the end of January, then in May with Dieter Hecking.
Despite this black point of his season, Amoura still managed to finish top scorer in Wolfsburg this season tied with Dzenan Pejcinovic. The German striker and Amoura, not to mention Andreas Christensen (best passer with 10 assists) were the great architects of Wolfsburg’s maintenance. They finished 16th in the Bundesliga with 29 points, only 3 points ahead of Heidenheim and St. Pauli who were relegated.
The World Cup to regain pleasure
It is in the skin of a miraculous maintained that Mohammed Amoura presented himself at the preparation camp of Algeria for the World Cup. But the former Union Saint-Gillois goalscorer must quickly move on to help the Greens to pass the first round and dream of other ambitions.
Moreover, he was one of the greatest architects of Algeria’s qualification for this World Cup, finishing top scorer (10) in the Africa qualifiers of the competition. Especially since he comes out of a shy 2025 AFCON with only one assist in 4 games. The pride of a champion should push him to reposition himself as an essential element for Vladimir Petkovic.
As a reminder, Algeria is in Group J alongside Argentina (17 June), Jordan (23 June) and Austria (28 June). But the Fennecs will deliver two friendly matches against the Netherlands next Wednesday (3 June) and Bolivia (10 June) before the start of the competition (from 11 June to 19 July).
