After Senegal, Tunisia and Morocco, Cameroon, the fourth African representative at the tournament, begin their campaign on Thursday 24 November against Switzerland in Group H. Though they were unconvincing in their warm-up matches (a 1-0 defeat by South Korea, and two draws, 1-1 against Jamaica and 1-1 against Panama), the Indomitable Lions are aiming to reach the knockout stage.

To get there, Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song, who played at four World Cups (1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010), intends to draw on his experience of the competition to push his players towards their goal.

"My experience of this World Cup allows me to help my players handle a competition like this better, to help them so that the mistakes made in our time are not repeated," he said at the pre-match press conference. "I was on the pitch, and today I have to pass that on. We have to do everything so that the green, red and yellow always stays to the fore."

Song and his squad will also have the chance to raise the Cameroonian flag high tomorrow against the Nati. It is an opportunity they do not intend to pass up. "We know very well what awaits us. We are focused and I think that tomorrow we will do everything to get the three points", said the former Indomitable Lions captain.

Kick-off is at 10:00 (GMT) at the Al-Janoub Stadium in Al-Wakrah.
