Egypt and Algeria look to back up their opening wins

It was a good start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for Egypt and Algeria. After comfortable wins, both sides now head out on their first away trip before this international window closes. For the Pharaohs, it is time to back it up. After a dominant display on Thursday 16 November against Djibouti (6-0), with four goals from Mohamed Salah, the 2021 AFCON finalists have already sent out a message by moving clear at the top of Group A. This time, against opponents who managed only a goalless draw with Ethiopia, Mostafa Mohamed's team-mates are already preparing to go for another win.

The Algerians' trip looks tougher. Mozambique made a good start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, winning on matchday 1 against Botswana (2-3). So the Fennecs will have to be more solid away from home to take maximum points.

Nigeria already under pressure

It was the shock of matchday 1 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles were held to a draw by Lesotho (1-1). Without Victor Osimhen, who is returning from injury, José Peseiro's side disappointed despite their array of attacking talent. With South Africa already setting the pace in Group C, Nigeria have no margin for error and must beat Zimbabwe on Sunday.

Keeping up with Senegal will be a tall order after their dominant home win over South Sudan (4-0). That is why DR Congo must make a perfect start from here. The Leopards can go top of Group B, at least temporarily, if they beat Sudan after their win over Mauritania.
