Canal+ is a key partner of the Ivorian Basketball Federation, so it was important that FIBB president Mahama Coulibaly presented it with the Basketball World Cup trophy. The ceremony took place at the pay-TV channel's headquarters in Abidjan on 16 May 2023. In front of an audience of journalists and fans, the trophy showed off its charms. The Naismith trophy is a real jewel, a gilded work of art that everyone could look at but not touch.
"The trophy wasn't supposed to come through here, but quite naturally we did everything to get it to you. It has been presented to the presidency of the Republic and to the Sports Minister. It has also visited popular spots. It weighs 7 kg and 200 grams and is plated in gold. We need people to get behind this World Cup voluntarily. Our goal in this competition is to qualify for the Olympics. Thank you all," said Coulibaly Kouamé Kombo, spokesperson, while Fatou Ba Sow, representing Managing Director Aziz Diallo, thanked the FIBB for the gift. "We have faith in the Elephants for this World Cup", said Kouamé.
