When the season ends and the reckoning comes, people will inevitably wonder how far Sehrou Guirassy could have gone without the injury that kept him out during November and the interruption of the AFCON. Because every time he has been fit so far in Germany, he has been unstoppable. The former Rennes player keeps piling up the goals. This weekend, the 27-year-old scored his 18th goal in 16 Bundesliga games. That puts him 4th in the race for the Golden Shoe, the trophy awarded at the end of each season to the top scorer in the European leagues.
The standings are led by Harry Kane (24 goals), the England striker at Bayern Munich, who made the most of the Guinean's absence to catch him, overtake him and open up a gap. Next come Kylian Mbappé (21 goals) and Lautaro Martinez (20 goals). While Sehrou Guirassy is currently the only African in the top 10 of the Golden Shoe standings, Kevin Denkey and Mohamed Salah are not far behind. The Togolese and the Egyptian are 11th and 12th respectively. Denkey is the top scorer in the Belgian league with 20 goals, but a Jupiler Pro League goal counts for only 1.5 points rather than 2 in the 5 major leagues. Salah, for his part, has 15 goals.
