U17 AFCON 2026: Latest group updates

Mali shocks Group C against Tanzania

After two draws in as many outings, Mali absolutely needed a victory to advance to the next round. The Aiglonnets win 2-1 against the leader, Tanzania, thanks to a double from Abdoulaye Touré. A victory that allows the Malian selection to keep its second place with 5 points and validate its qualification in the quarter-finals.

Despite the defeat, Tanzania also advance to the quarter-finals. The young Tanzanians had already done the job in their first two outings, beating on an identical score (3-0) Mozambique and Angola.

In the other match of the group, Mozambique took over (2-1) on Angola. Both teams are eliminated. But, the Angolans will compete in the play-offs for a place at the next World Cup.

Senegal and Algeria in the quarter-finals

Senegal will indeed be at the quarterfinals. After their opening defeat (1-2) against South Africa, the Senegalese youth team was able to react during the last two matches in Group D. Having eliminated Ghana (1-0) on the second day, the Lions did the job this Wednesday. At field 11 of the Mohammed VI Complex, they beat Algeria 2-1 thanks to the achievements of Cheikh Dieng and Souleymane Commisaire Faye.

Despite their defeat, Algeria will also play in the U17 CAN quarter-finals, being second in group D with 4 points. They narrowly beat Ghana (4 points) after a draw following a perfect tie. The young Ghanaians beat (3-1) South Africa, finished third and will play off for a place in the U17 World Championship.
