A final season of hardship at Tottenham

Bissouma's last season with the Spurs was truly an ordeal. Sidelined from the very start by Thomas Frank for his lack of discipline, notably repeated lateness to training sessions, the Malian midfielder then suffered a knee injury and spent 131 days away from the pitch, missing a total of 31 matches with Tottenham.

All in all, he played only 5 matches under the English manager, who enforced a zero-tolerance policy on discipline. Just 11 matches over the entire season for Bissouma, who endured a final difficult year in London before leaving the Spurs this summer. Lacking match sharpness, the Eagle had to bide his time during the summer transfer window despite some interest from Turkey.

In his position, Yves Bissouma is unquestionably among the best of his generation. But in recent years, disciplinary issues and a lack of professionalism have prevented him from reaching the heights that many expected after his departure from Brighton in 2022.

Between nights out, a lifestyle far from exemplary, and a continually declining level of commitment, Bissouma’s performances naturally dropped to the point where he had to wait until mid-September to find a club.

And the length of his contract speaks volumes about his physical condition and the caution of the Dutch management in his case. It is now up to Bissouma to show commitment in training and adopt a healthier lifestyle to relaunch his career in the Eredivisie, which is probably not the toughest league he will play in during his career.
