Oshoala scores on Barca return

Asisat Oshoala made a goalscoring return in her first Barcelona match since November 2021 as they defeated rivals Tenerife 7-0 in an away Spanish Primera Iberdrola encounter on Saturday.

The encounter marked the Nigeria striker's return from the sideline, having been in the treatment room since 13 November 2021 with a ruptured posterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.

Before being ruled out for almost two months, she led the league's scorers chart with 11 goals in nine matches but was overtaken by teammate Alexia Putellas with just a goal advantage.

Although Barcelona were already 6-0 up on the day, Oshoala, who was a 76th minute replacement for Lieke Martens, guaranteed the visitors' heavy victory a minutes from full-time with her superb solo finish.

With her latest goal, the 27-year-old forward has now notched 12 goals in 10 league outings this season and goes joint-top with Putellas on the scorers table despite missing out in Barcelona's last seven league games. She will look to add more to her league tally against Sporting Huelva on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in Madrid, Vicky Lopez delivered an impressive display despite Madrid's 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in Saturday's Spanish Primera Iberdrola encounter at Estadio Nuevo Matapinonera.

The 15-year-old Spanish youth international had finally made her first start against Real Madrid, although she was back on the bench for another cameo against Barcelona last time out.

The forward earned her second start of the season and made a huge impression as she had a hand in her side's only goal despite suffering a late heartbreaking defeat to their visitors from Seville.

Victor Fernández's side made a false start to the match as Rosa Otermin gave Sevilla the lead from the spot after just seven minutes of action.

The hosts made several attempts to level matters but could not find a breakthrough until the 83rd minute when Lopez found a breakthrough to set up Cristina Libran and the Spaniard made no mistake to level matters for Madrid.

The comeback celebration were shortlived as substitute Elisa del Estal stunned the home side with strike three minutes from time to ensure Cristian Toro's team snatch the maxmum points from the Spanish capital.

Despite the defeat, López, who was born in Madrid to a Spanish father and Nigerian mother, lasted the duration of the contest and contributed an assist on her sixth topflight appearance for Madrid CFF.
