Nigeria international Ashleigh Plumptre has expressed gratitude over her shorlist for the English Women’s Super League Player of the Month for February.
Plumptre who made quite an impression in her competitive debut for the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola stadium on Friday made two remarkable appearances for Leicester City in the month under review.
She played a key role in defense as Leicester won both games in February. In the 3-0 victory against West Ham, Plumptre's goal for Leicester City helped them surge above Everton and was outstanding in her second appearance in the 2-1 victory against Birmingham.
The 23-year-old was rock solid and gave a five-star performance as the Falcons beat Cote d'Ivoire 2-0 in the first-leg final round qualifier for this year's women's Africa Cup of Nations thanks to a brace from Ifeoma Onumonu.
In race for the prize, the Nigerian defender will seek to edge Chelsea duo of Jess Carter and Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger, Leicester City's Jemma Purfield, Aston Villa's Alisha Lehmann and Tottenham's Ashleigh Neville.
In a swift reaction, she said via her official twitter handle: "Appreciate the genuine support of those that will us on as a team and as individuals, no matter who is represented. Thank you, truly."
In continuation of one of her career's most exciting month, Plumptre is expected to be in action when the Super Falcons battle Ivory Coast for an AWCON ticket on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
