A luncheon was hosted by Top Star Zambia at Hilton Hotel for the AWCON bound Copper Queens, to honour the team for booking their spot at the competition which will be played in Morocco from 2-23 July.
Zambia qualified for the competition by beating Namibia on away goals, as the clash finished 1-1 on aggregate.
President of the Federation of Zambian Football, Andrew Kamanga, said they were hoping to get more support from sponsors to ensure that the team is well prepared for the continental showpiece. The Zambian team was at the Olympics last year and Kamanga said that a lot of money was spent for the preparations, so this time round they will need sponsors to come through to support the team.
“It is never easy to prepare a team in the sense that the team which qualified to the Olympics we had to spend in excess of six million kwacha. We camped the team for almost six months, we had to pay for the team’s qualification and travel as well as qualifying bonus,” he said, as quoted by ZamFoot.
“This time around we have spent close to four million but again, this in our view is a commitment where we think that it is about time that sponsors came in and supported our team because they always done the best.”
