Edgar Watson Suubi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed that they will take part in the tournament which takes place March 25-29th.
“This is another good opportunity for our players to get exposed as they prepare for several international engagements in 2022,” added Ssubi.
The Navruz Cup 2022 which will attract four teams will be played at the Markaziy Stadium, a multi-use stadium in Namangan.
After playing Iceland (1-1), Moldova (3-2), Romanian club FC Botosani (2-2) in Turkey, Iraq (0-1) in Baghdad and Bahrain (1-3) in Riffa, this will be another opportunity to finetune the team ahead of the football season.
Uganda Cranes will play their opening match against Tajikistan on March 25th, while the hosts Uzbekistan take on Kyrgyz Republic. The winning teams will face-off in the final, while the losing team will play for third place.
Uganda Cranes under coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic started the 2022 season with four international friendly matches played in January.
They started with a 1-1 draw against Iceland, before defeating Moldova 3-2. The Cranes later lost 1-0 to Iraq and suffered a 3-1 loss away to Bahrain.
