Ethiopia’s U-20 Women’s coach warns Ghana after defeat in Addis Ababa

The head coach of Ethiopia’s U-20 women’s team, Firew Haile Gabriel has warned Ghana that they should not be too confident ahead of the return leg of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier.

The Black Princesses of Ghana defeated Ethiopia 3-0 in the first leg of the final phase of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in a match played on Sunday in Addis Ababa.

Salamtu Abdulai netted a brace for the Ghana team, while Ceceila Nyama also got her name on the score sheet.

But Ethiopia’s coach has made it clear that although they failed to win the match at home, his team has what it takes to also go and win the return match in Ghana.

“We started poorly and conceded three goals in the first half. But we settled and also missed some good scoring chances in the second half,” added Firew Haile Gabriel.

The coach warned Ghana that they should not take the return leg for granted. “We shall go to Ghana for a real final and I believe my team can turn this round since some of my players who missed the first leg will be present,” added the coach.

To reach the final phase of the qualifiers Ethiopia ejected Tanzania, while Ghana saw-off Uganda.

Africa will be represented by three teams in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to take place in Costa Rica in August 2022.
