Protocol signed for the new DR Congo Sports Palace
The DR Congo will soon have a sports hall that meets international standards. Promised by the president of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, after the Leopards won the first edition of the Afrocan in Mali in 2019, Kinshasa Arena will soon be built. The 20,000-seat sports hall will be built by the Turkish company Suma, which signed a memorandum of understanding with the Congolese government on Friday 8 July via Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde and the Minister of Sports, Serge Nkonde.
The Turkish company Suma has already proven itself in Africa in the construction of large sports palaces. It built the Dakar Arena in Senegal and the Kigali Arena in Rwanda. The Turkish firm says that with its 20,000 seats, Kinshasa Arena will be a model of these two other sports palaces but larger than the Senegalese building which has 15,000 seats and that of Rwanda which has 10,000 seats. Kinshasa Arena will be built next to the Martyrs' Stadium, one of the largest stadiums on the African continent. The overall cost of the construction and the date of the start of work have not yet been revealed.
