In the Champions League, Egyptian Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool's second goal from the penalty spot against Glasgow Rangers (2-0). Also in Group A, Ajax Amsterdam were steamrolled at home by Napoli (1-6) as Ghanaian Mohammed Kudus opened the scoring for the Lancers.

Bayern Munich crushed Czech side Viktoria Plzen 5-0 with goals from Senegal's Sadio Mané and Cameroon's Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

In Group D, Marseille got its first win against Sporting Lisbon (4-1) with a goal from Moroccan Amine Harit and another from Congolese (DRC) Chancel Mbemba.

Chelsea won largely against AC Milan (3-0), the Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having scored the second goal in London.

Finally, the Algerian Riyad Mahrez scored from the penalty spot in Manchester City's crushing 5-0 victory over FC Copenhagen of Denmark.

In the Europa League, the Congolese (DRC) Jonathan Okita saved the honor of FC Zurich, humiliated at Letzigrund by PSV Eindhoven (1-5).

The Azeri team of Qarabag won a spectacular victory (3-0) at Olympiakos Piraeus with a goal from Ghanaian Owusu Kwabena.

His compatriot Daniel-Kofi Kyereh contributed to the success of FC Freiburg against Nantes (2-0) while the Gabonese Guélor Kanga, author of a double (including a penalty), shone during a prolific Red Star Belgrade-Ferencvaros (4-1).

Finally, in the Europa League Conference, the Ivorian Nicolas Pépé allowed Nice to win in Czech Republic against Slovacko (1-0). Christian Kouamé, another Ivorian international, scored one of Fiorentina's three goals at Hearts of Midlothian (3-0).

Pyunik Ereven of Armenia defeated Zalgiris Vilnius of Lithuania 2-0 with a goal from Nigeria's Yusuf Otubanjo, while Sivasspor of Turkey were beaten 3-4 on their home turf by the surprising Kosovars of Ballkani, with Mustapha Yatabaré of Mali scoring the equalizer early in stoppage.
