The Football Association of Zambia have as an immediate ambition to qualify the men’s national selection to the next AFCON. Placed in group H of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers, Zambia are second behind Cote D’Ivoire.

The next coach which is Israeli Avram Grant, will be charged with the responsibility to qualify the team to the AFCON after 3 years of absence.

67 year old Grant formerly coached the Ghana Black Stars from 2014-2017. He ended runner-up in the 2015 AFCON with Ghana.

He equally has massive experience with club sides having coached Chelsea, Portsmouth and West Ham in the premier league, amongst others.

Speaking in a press conference in Lusaka, Avram Grant said he needed a new challenge on the continent, reason for his choice of Zambia.

"I am here because of the challenge and I hope that when I leave here I will look around and say that we have done a good job and we have laid a good foundation for the future. I think Zambia has the potential. We have set the goals of what we want to achieve." said the new coach.
