Abakar Sylla has been playing for Club Brugge since the beginning of the season. But on Sunday, he gave himself a crack that makes people talk after his exclusion against Genk.
Abakar Sylla had a nightmare Sunday. Club Brugge lost 1-3 against Genk, but the defender had a very difficult afternoon. First guilty of having conceded a corner largely avoidable on the equalization of Genk (24th), the Ivorian will then completely derail. He conceded a nasty foul on Paintsil who was going on the counter-attack (39th). If everyone expected a direct red, the referee was lenient with "only" a yellow card. But it was only a temporary setback.
Just after the 70th minute of play, Abakar Sylla let his hand drag on Paul Onuachu's face. After the referee's whistle, the Ivorian international went into a rage. He made big gestures and threw the ball. He logically receives a second yellow card synonymous with exclusion. The 20-year-old then refused to leave. His own teammates started to escort him off the pitch.
"He is a young player...
However, Abakar Sylla does not stop there. The Ivorian defender will smash a door on his way to the locker room. "I have already spoken to him (...). He is a young player with a lot of potential but sometimes these young people make mistakes. He crossed the line today. I was such a boy once. It was a stupid decision on his part, but we will support him. I want my players to play with raw emotion. You balance on the edge, but now Abakar has crossed a line. He made a mistake hitting the ball," said coach Scott Parker after the game.
If his coach seems to put this blow on the account of youth, Abakar Sylla risks a heavy suspension.
