CAF Confederation Cup: Rivers United bounce back with victory over ASEC Mimosa

Rivers cruise past ASEC
Rivers United returned to winning ways in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage with a clinical 3-0 win over Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
The Nigeria Premier Football League champions had suffered losing start in the group stage campaign with a 3-0 loss to Diables Noirs of Congo in Brazzaville a week ago and needed to find a response on their first game at home.
First half strike from Malachi Ohawuma and second half brace from Cameroonian Goals from Ngweni Deni Ndasi powered Stanley Eguma's side to a comfortable home win as they end the Ivorians 18-match unbeaten streak in all competitions since the loss to Horoya in October.
Ohawuma opened the scoring from the first chance of the match with potentially the fatest goal of this year's competition inside the first minute off Nwangwa Nyima's assist in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Three minutes from break, Ukeme Williams doubled the lead for the Port Harcourt outfit to give the Nigerian side a 2-0 lead at hald time.
After the interval, Ndasi increased Rivers United's lead thanks to an assist from Ebube Duru in the 48th minute to ensure a comfortable win.
The win ensured that Rivers United moved to the second position in the group with three points after two games.
The team will next face Motema Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who held Asec Mimosa to a 0-0 draw their opening group game.
On the other hand, Diables Noirs and Motema Pembe will trade tackle in the other group game with the former having a three-point lead on the standings.
