CAF CC: 10 man Rivers United stun Motema Pembe in Angola

Pride of Rivers on the rise!
Nigeria's sole representative at the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United pipped Motema Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Sunday.
The Nigerian Champions had lost its first game of the group stage 3-0 to Diables Noirs of Congo before bouncing back to winning ways against Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast by the same scoreline last Sunday.
Motema Pembe had played out 0-0 to Asec Mimosa and Diables Noirs in its first two group games before the clash of the second and third-placed teams from Group B took place at the Estádio 11 de Novembro stadium in Talatona.
Stanley Eguma's side were reduced to ten players after Ebube Duru was sent off for his second bookable offense in the 42nd minute after he had initially received a yellow card in the 29th minute before he received his early showers.
The numerical disadvantage didn't deter the visitors in its attacking threat as the Port Harcourt-based side found the breakthrough in the second half.
Ghanaian import, Paul Acquah scored the winning goal for Rivers United in the 53rd minute as the visitors held on to earn their first away win on the continent after previous defeats at Waydad Casablanca and Diables Noirs.
The win was Rivers United's second of the group stage and moved the team to the top of the table with six points after three games.
In the other match of the group elsewhere, Asec Mimosa moved to the second position after a 2-0 win over Diables Noirs. Up next for Rivers United is a home clash with Motema Pembe as Stanley Eguma's side seek to consolidate on their position at the top of the group standings on March 7, 2023.
