The U20 World Cup, which will finally take place in Argentina, will take place from May 20 to June 11, 2023. Ahead of this global event, FIFA has just unveiled the list of referees for the tournament. The authority has selected 25 referees, 38 assistant referees and 18 video referees. The African continent is well represented. In the batch, we find 10 representatives of the continent. Tom Abongile (South Africa), Issa Sy and Nouha Bangoura (Senegal), Mohamed Marouf and Amr Ahmed Abdelrahim Elshinawi (Egypt), Zakaria Brinsi and El Fariq Hamza (Morocco), Ivanildo Meirelles DE O Sanches Lopes (Angola), Abelmiro Dos Reis Monte Negro (Sao Tome and Principe), Abdel Aziz Bouh (Mauritania).

Prior to the U20 World Cup, referees will be briefed on topics such as reading and understanding the game, collaboration and the importance of being in the right place at the right time in order to make the right decisions from the best angle. "All these essential aspects reflect the philosophy of refereeing within FIFA. They are essential to ensure uniformity and consistency of refereeing decisions at this level.

FIFA must ensure that its competitions are run by the best referees in the world," said Massimo Busacca, Director of FIFA's Refereeing Sub-Division. Finally, the officials will participate in a seminar a few days before the start of the tournament. All this to avoid some mistakes.
