Trail World Championships: More gold for Leonard Chemutai

At the end of the final event of the 2023 Trail World Championships, Uganda's Leonard Chemutai won the classic mountain race for the second year running. He won in 56:14 ahead of Kenya's Ombogo Kiriago Philemon (56:22) and Germany's Filimon Abraham (56:27).

"I was convinced that I had to win this medal," said Chemutai, who won the classic U20 mountain race at last year's championships in Thailand. He continued: "Last time Kenya won the (senior) medal and today I said, 'no, Uganda has a chance to get it.' My tactic was just to win. I wasn't doing too well on the last loop, my leg was hurting but I said to myself, 'I've got to move'. God gave me the strength and I pushed to the end.
