After four wins in a row and qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations already secured, Senegal turned their fortunes around when they travelled to Benin on Saturday 17 June. The Lions were held to a 1-1 draw by the Cheetahs. Aliou Cissé, coach of the African champions, was nevertheless satisfied with his players' performance.
"I think it was quite satisfactory in terms of content. A coach likes his game plan to be respected, and that's what I saw today, both offensively and defensively. When we came here to Benin, it was important to give some playing time to certain lads like Formose Mendy, who did very well, Jakson and Sadio Mané, who also did very well. We also tried to refocus Krepin Diatta in midfield. The Senegal squad is getting stronger all the time, and the boys who played today showed some very good things," the coach told the press conference.
