Africa suffers its second defeat at the 2023 Women's World Cup. After Zambia's heavy defeat by Japan (0-5), South Africa went down to a narrow defeat in their opening match. The reigning African champions lost to Sweden (2-1) in Group G. The South Africans opened the scoring with a Magaia strike.
