Dream FM Radio’s Dream Sports host and popular Cameroonian blogger Muambo Edward Lyonga is reported to be under investigation after top officials of the Southwest Regional Bureau of Fecafoot dropped a complaint against him at the State Counsel’s office in Buea.
The journalist and administrator of Facebook page: Indomitable Lions Travker, whose lawyer showed up on Tuesday September 23, at a Buea police station for questioning only said the charges are around defamation and character assassination, and refused to give further details.
Muambo alongside a few others have naturally become targets following their unending investigative reports uncovering what has been considered “dirty jobs” by some members of the SW Regional Bureau of FECAFOOT.
The reports range from questioning some key decisions by the bureau regarding match fixing allegations at the 2023 SW Mini Interpools, to player eligibility and identify fraud, allegedly orchestrated by the said bureau. He has also been very critical of the management protocols of the national president of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o
Muambo and his lawyers are reported to be gathering facts and other elements that could likely implicate the entire bureau while vindicating him of the charges levied.
A consortium of journalists and lawyers have also picked keen interest in the said case and mobilization behind the journalist is gaining steam from reports.
This is not the first time such a crackdown on journalists is surfacing in Cameroon. In October 2022, Sports editor Philémon Mbale was unlawfully locked up in Limbe at the Gendamerie Company unit for six days, following his reports on alleged identity fraud of players of Victoria United at the 2022 national Interpools tournament played in Limbe. His report back then clearly indicted some top FECAFOOT officials including those of the South West Regional bureau. He was later freed upon lack of sufficient evidence against him.
