Athletics - Budapest Worlds (5000m final): Krop and Kipkurui aim for a medal

Kenyans Jacob Krop and Ishmael Kipkurui tied for 7th place in the second semi-final of the 5000m after a time of 13''33'66. These results do not place them among the announced favourites for the final. Far from being an alarmist, Krop says that the first step was to reach the final and redefine the team's strategy.

He added that with the right planning, he and Kipkurui can't go home empty-handed. "It's all about speed and endurance, and I believe we have what it takes to perform well despite our seventh-place finish in the semi-finals," he says.

He adds: "All we wanted was to qualify for the final. And I'm glad we did. The next step will be to determine how we can go home with medals."

Rendezvous for the final this Sunday, August 27 at 6.10pm.
