There's plenty to watch in Europe's top leagues this weekend.Tottenham host Liverpool, Olympique de Marseille travel to AS Monaco and Leipzig entertain the Bavarian giants.
Tottenham-Liverpool: the clash of the unbeatens
Spurs host the Reds this Saturday September 30 at 16:30 GMT. Both teams are unbeaten in the league so far this season. Tottenham are in 4th place and appear to be on course for a European spot. Despite Harry Kane's departure, the London club is very ambitious, with a coherent and attractive style of play. Yves Bissouma and company have already inflicted defeat on Manchester United (2-0) and are coming off a heroic draw with Arsenal (2-2). New coach Ange Postecoglou's ideas seem to be bearing fruit. Liverpool, on the other hand, are aiming to regain their place in the Champions League. Second in the league, the Mersey club have been on the up since the end of last season. The Reds seem to have rediscovered their former glory and are continuing their upward climb. They are on a 7-game winning streak in all competitions. What's more, they have largely dominated Spurs in their last 5 Premier League meetings (3 wins, 2 draws). With Mohamed Salah in fine form (3 goals, 4 assists), Liverpool remain a formidable team who can strike at any time.
Monaco-Marseille: OM in troubled waters
Olympique de Marseille face a perilous trip to Monaco following their 4-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday September 24. With the crisis reigning there and a lack of positive results, the Marseillais will be in the Principality on Saturday September 30 to try and get back on track. OM have now gone 4 games without a win. They will, however, be able to count on their new coach, Gennaro Gattuso, who arrived after Marcelino's departure. They also have Ismaïla Sarr back from injury.
Monaco, on their part, will be looking to bounce back after their derby loss to Nice (0-1). While the situation in Marseille is the talk of the town, the Monaco coach prefers to concentrate on his team. "I don't want to comment on what's happening at Olympique de Marseille. My concentration is on our situation. What I can say is that Gennaro Gattuso was a very good footballer, an Italian international who was world champion in 2006. He was a very aggressive midfielder. It's not easy to prepare for this match, not really knowing how your team is going to play. But we have to concentrate on ourselves and our philosophy," said Adi Hütter.
Leipzig-Bayern: the German Supercup rematch
On August 12, RB Leipzig humiliated Bayern Munich in the German Supercup (3-0). Just over a month later, the two clubs meet again in the league (Saturday, September 30). Leipzig are on a 5-game winning streak in the Bundesliga. They have not lost since their opening match against Bayer Leverkusen (3-2). Werkself (factory eleven) are 5th with 12 points, 2 behind first-placed Dortmund. A win for Leipzig against Bayern would be a major step forward and confirm their good form against the Bavarians.
The latter are, however, unbeaten so far this season.Only Leverkusen have managed to slow them down (2-2). The reigning German champions have rediscovered their efficiency and are not doing their opponents any favours. With an average of 3 goals per game, teams such as Bochum (7-0), Werder (0-4) and Augsburg (3-1) have taken heavy tolls. The arrival of Harry Kane has revitalized the Bavarian attack, and the England international seems to be flourishing in Germany. He has 7 goals and 3 assists to his name in the Bundesliga so far this season.A weapon that RB Leipzig will need to keep an eye on.
