Dreams FC's Remarkable Journey to CAF Confederation Cup Group Stages

Dreams FC qualifies for CAF Confederation Cup

Dreams Football Club's head coach, Karim Zito, couldn't contain his delight and pride after his team's remarkable qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages. The Dawu-based club's journey to this stage was nothing short of extraordinary, marked by determination and a clear vision.

The path to this stage began after Dreams FC clinched the MTN FA Cup title last season, earning them the privilege to represent Ghana in African competition. Over the past few weeks, they engaged in a series of preliminary round matches to secure a spot in the group stages.

In the first-leg encounter against Kallon FC at the Accra Sports Stadium, Dreams FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory. Today, in the return leg away from home, they battled fiercely and held Kallon FC to a 1-1 draw, resulting in a 3-2 aggregate win for the Ghanaian outfit. Coach Zito reflected on the strategy that led to their success, saying, "FC Kallon didn’t expect us to have an open game from the blast of the whistle in the second leg. Before they realized it, we had the first goal, and that was the plan."

Dreams became the first Ghanaian club since 2019 to make the CAF Confederations Cup group stages since Asante Kotoko.

Coach Zito's excitement didn't stop there. He heaped praise on the club's remarkable striker, John Antwi, who had recently joined Dreams FC ahead of the new season. Antwi's wealth of experience, having played for prestigious clubs such as Al Ahly and Pyramids FC in Egypt, made him a key player in Dreams FC's African campaign.

Zito commended Antwi's leadership qualities, stating, "He managed his teammates very well, and they were all willing to learn from him, which benefited the team." Antwi's ability to guide and mentor his fellow players promised to be an invaluable asset to Dreams FC.

The coach also highlighted Antwi's on-field impact, noting, "Whenever he had the ball, you'd see opponents surround him in their numbers." This recognition of Antwi's prowess as a player demonstrated the fear he instilled in opposing teams, making him a formidable force on the pitch.

Antwi's arrival in Ghana after his stint with Jordanian club Al Faisaly had ignited hopes that his remarkable goal-scoring ability would propel Dreams FC to new heights in the new season. With Dreams FC's qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages and John Antwi's contributions, the club was set for an exciting and competitive season ahead.
